In news that may interest wireless communication device manufacturers, anti-virus software provider Norton has said that mobile users are oblivious to the fact that they need to protect their phones because they don't realise their handsets hold the same personal information as their PC.
This is because, according to Con Mallon, director of regional product marketing at the consumer online protection brand, consumers do not see smartphones as a computer.
"They still see it as a phone and [are] not really all that savvy to the climate for security," Mr Mallon explained.
Educating people that cybercriminals could now target their phone as well as their PC to obtain personal information is a "massive job", he added.
By and large, Mr Mallon continued, more PCs have "some form of security software running on them, by and large the majority of mobiles do not", which he said makes it "much easier" to get information from phones.
