Wireless communications device manufacturer HTC has announced that its Desire handset will receive the Android Gingerbread 2.3 update.
The news comes just 24 hours after HTC claimed that it was not possible.
Indeed, the manufacturer insisted initially that the HTC Desire did not have enough memory to support Android Gingerbread together with its overlay. But after customers flocked to Facebook to express their disappointment, HTC revised its plans.
"To resolve the Desire's memory issue and enable the upgrade to Gingerbread, we will cut selected apps from the release. Look for status updates starting next week. We apologise for any confusion," HTC commented.
HTC confirmed recently that its sales for May reached £860 million, more than double the same month a year earlier.
The monthly sales of the Taiwanese firm compared with £400 million a year ago and £820 million in April.
Ever since HTC started to predominantly produce handsets for Google's Android mobile operating system, it has seen sales improve dramatically.
