The device has been billed by the firm as a phone aimed at those looking for a "stunning" blend of the latest design and smartphone technology.
Marko Ahtisaari, Nokia's head of design, commented: "With the Nokia N9, we wanted to design a better way to use a phone. To do this we innovated in the design of the hardware and software together.
"We reinvented the home key with a simple gesture: a swipe from the edge of the screen. The experience sets a new bar for how natural technology can feel."
The expert also claimed that there are a number of features that make the N9 stand out from the crowd, pointing to its industrial design and all-screen user experience, adding that this will pave the way for future Nokia products to evolve.
