National Semiconductor unveils new LED driver      - Jul 10 2011 16:00:06

National Semiconductor, a technology manufacturer, has unveiled the first 2A red, green and blue LED driver for portable projectors.

According to the firm, the device's projectors drive three common anode red, green and blue high-brightness LEDs sequentially through a single inductor.

This is in contrast to other products on the market, which tend to include a separate driver for each LED.

The new LED combats the growing problem of space contracts on pocket projectors. It powers each LED at 60Hz and above with compact switching-mode constant current regulation and, according to National Semiconductor, is designed to match demands of liquid crystal on silicone or digital light processing image devices.

National Semiconductor specializes in analog devices and subsystems. The firm is headquartered in Santa Clara, California.

Founded in 1959 by Dr Bernard Rothlein, the firm's products include power management circuits, display drivers, audio and operational amplifiers, as well as communication interface products and data conversion solutions.
