Satellite broadband is most suitable for people who are getting download speeds of less than 1mbps and have explored various different suppliers for their postcode, it has been claimed.
Michael Phillips, product director at Broadbandchoices.co.uk, observed that it is at that point satellite broadband becomes an option.
This is because, he explained, "usually when you're in a rural area it is unlikely that you can be served mobile broadband at 3G connectivity anymore than you can be served by the ADSL network".
Mr Phillips added: "Whilst BT ADSL network reaches 99 per cent of homes, there is a huge number of people whose broadband connection is less than 1mbps."
While less than 1mbps is not unworkable, it is "like having dial-up ten years ago", the wireless communications device expert observed.
