The mobile phone is becoming the preferred route to getting onto the internet, it has been noted.
Rob Thurner, mobile consultant and digital trainer at the IDM, observed that around 28 per cent of all internet browsing is now taking place on a smartphone.
"We saw fixed rate data plans starting to come on board in 2005, which removed one of the big obstacles that a lot of people had with mobile internet - the fear that they would end up being charged a lot of money for something that should have been low cost,” he commented.
He added: "With processing power, bigger screens and touch screen, we are able to do things on our mobile that ordinarily we would have to wait to do when we were back on the PC."
The IDM, a registered charity, is internationally recognised as the leading professional body for the development of direct, data and digital marketing.
