More Americans than ever will buy tablet computers and smartphones, wireless communication device manufacturers may be interested to learn.
A forecast from the US trade group Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) has claimed that this will push consumer electronics revenue up 5.6 per cent to $190 billion (£119 billion) in 2011.
Sales in the US of tablet computers will reach 26.5 million units, creating $14 billion in revenue, the CEA confirmed.
Smartphone purchases, meanwhile, will increase by 45 per cent to $23 billion, wireless communication device users may be interested to learn.
"One year ago, tablets were a new and unproven market. Now they, along with other mobile connected devices including smartphones and e-readers, are leading the entire industry to positive growth," remarked Steve Koenig, the group's director of industry analysis.
According to the CEA, total spending has increased by $4 billion since its prediction in January, when it forecast three per cent growth.
