Wireless communication device manufacturers may be interested to hear that Kaspersky Lab has launched Endpoint 8 for smartphones in a bid to combat the rise in the consumerisation of IT by protecting corporate data stored on mobile devices.
According to the firm, the new product protects data on mobile devices from loss and theft, as well as unauthorised access and mobile malware.
Andrew Lintell, Kaspersky Lab corporate sales director, explained that a survey conducted for Kaspersky Lab of 1,600 smartphone users found that 20 per cent of all respondents have reported their smartphones lost or stolen at some stage.
"This is of distinct concern considering that 90 per cent of smartphone users surveyed store both personal and corporate data on their devices," Lintell commented.
"It is also worth considering that although mobile malware is still in its infancy, the cost of ignoring mobile antivirus can be disastrous for businesses of all sizes."
It is, therefore, vital that IT departments have "full control and visibility over mobile devices to maintain a high level of protection for their endpoint frontline".
