There are a huge number of pensioners who are now online, according to Edd Dawson, editor of broadband.co.uk.
Mr Dawson observed that the social networking site Facebook is one of the biggest growth areas in terms of websites being used by the older generation, wireless communication device users may be interested to learn.
"People are now using it to keep in touch with grandchildren and children," he commented.
"As families get more disparate, more and more of the older generation are using the internet to keep in touch with members of their family all over the world."
Despite this, Mr Dawson acknowledged that there are going to be some die-hards that never want the internet.
But at the end of the day, he said, "you can't afford to not use it".
Launched in February 2004, Facebook has more than 750 million active users at present, wireless communication device users may be interested to learn.
