Twitter is likely to become even more popular over the next few years.
This is the view of Tim Gibbon, founder and director of Elemental Communications, who noted that the popular networking site is still growing and that it "doesn't appear to have reached critical mass".
"Twitter is developing its own tools to distinguish its position in the marketplace as it seeks to generate more revenue and improve services," Mr Gibbon observed.
He added: "The service has no intention of going anywhere and indeed will be challenging many of the third party services that were developed to fill in the gaps of Twitter's shortcomings."
Last week, Rik Ferguson, director of security, research and communications Europe, Middle East and Africa at Trend Micro, said that social media sites will "without question" become the central hub for cyber crime and spamming over the next few years.
Google+ will be particularly attractive for online criminals, he said.
