Wireless communication device users may be interested to learn Android's share of the smartphone market has increased once again, rising to 47 per cent of worldwide smartphone sales in the second quarter of 2011.
This is according to Michael Morgan, senior analyst for mobile devices at ABI Research, who said that he expects to see this figure continue to rise in the coming months.
Rival operating system Symbian, on the other hand, has seen its market share sink from 39 per cent in the second quarter of 2010 to 17 per cent in the same quarter this year.
This comes shortly after Gartner suggested that Android's market share increased to 43.4 per cent in the second quarter of 2011 from 17.2 per cent last year.
Symbian, meanwhile, was said to have seen its market share decline to 22.1 per cent in the second quarter from 40.9 per cent in 2010.
Independent analyst firm Canalys has also listed Android as the best-selling smartphone platform worldwide.
