Research In Motion's (RIM) operating system is a "little stale", it has been claimed.
Michael Morgan, senior analyst for mobile devices at ABI Research, explained that this does not mean that the firm's operating system is not bad per se.
They are, in fact, actually good, solid technological foundations "but the trend has changed", Mr Morgan explained.
Unfortunately, though, RIM's Blackberry Messenger service has been blamed for facilitating anti-social and violent behaviour.
"This is not the first time it happened, that they’ve faced a battle when someone has said 'oh my god you guys facilitate terrorism or you guys are promoting this' and they never are," he remarked.
"The fact of the matter is that it's just a platform which you can run some messaging on so it helps the operators fill some of the volume."
Meanwhile, Mr Morgan also suggested that Android's share of the smartphone market has increased once again, rising to 47 per cent of worldwide smartphone sales in the second quarter of 2011.
