Wireless communication device users may be among those interested to learn that an online community used by developers of Nokia phone apps has been infiltrated by hackers.
Nokia warned that members' personal information may have been stolen.
As a result of the hacking, the firm’s forums have been temporarily shut down to allow for an investigation to take place.
No-one has claimed responsibility for the attack thus far, Nokia confirmed, adding that no compromised information has yet appeared elsewhere on the web.
Explaining how the hackers had managed to gain access, Nokia said: “A database table containing developer forum members' email addresses has been accessed, by exploiting a vulnerability in the bulletin board software that allowed an SQL Injection attack.”
Nokia refused to reveal the precise scale of the attack, though the firm suggested that it was extensive.
"Initially we believed that only a small number of these forum member records had been accessed, but further investigation has identified that the number is significantly larger," the firm said.
