Samsung Electronics has announced it is to launch a new smartphone utilising Microsoft's Windows operating system.
In a statement released by the South Korean electronics giant has confirmed the upcoming release of the Omnia W, a handheld device which will be powered by Windows Phone Mango software.
It is anticipated that the new smartphone will be released in Italy at the end of October before being gradually rolled out around the world, though which networks it will be made available on has yet to be confirmed.
Meanwhile, Apple is widely-believed to be just days away from unveiling the latest upgrades to its massively-popular iPhone.
According to tech-industry observers, the iPhone 5 will be launched at Apple's headquarters at the start of October, with interest among global consumers set to be huge.
Additionally, Huawei has also announced the launch of its own new Android smartphone, with this latest device boasting extra-long battery life as well as a 1.4GHz processor and 4GB of intergrated storahe.
