Google has confirmed its intention of challenging Apple's iPhone in the lucrative wireless communication device market by announcing that it will launch the Samsung Nexus Prime in October in San Diego.
The new phone, it has been revealed, will run the latest version of the Android operating system, otherwise known as Ice Cream Sandwich.
Google has become embroiled in various legal wrangles over recent months, with rival manufacturers suggesting the search engine giant has taken their patents.
In response to this, Google has strived to emphasise that it is ploughing ahead with the launch of new hardware and software.
"Microsoft are resorting to legal measures to extort profit from others' achievements and hinder the pace of innovation," a spokesman for the firm explained.
"We remain focused on building new technology and supporting Android partners."
Elsewhere, Amazon recently launched its much-vaunted Kindle Fire device, which the firm hopes will enable it to challenge Apple in the wireless communications device market.
