The popularity and reputation of the BlackBerry brand has taken a hit over the last couple of years as rival manufacturers have developed innovative new handsets.
This is the view of Heather McLean, co-founder and editor for online mobile news publication Smart Gorillas.
She observed that many of the new devices are more aesthetically appealing than the Blackberry, which has influenced the decline in sales.
Additionally, Ms McLean said that the operating systems, user interfaces, functionalities and systems to support those new devices have been ahead of the BlackBerry for some time.
"The company hasn't moved fast enough to remedy the gaps in its portfolio and technology," she remarked.
Earlier this month, Research In Motion (RIM), manufacturers of the BlackBerry mobile phone, confirmed a 15 per cent fall in revenue on the previous quarter.
RIM also revealed that it shipped approximately 10.6 million BlackBerry smartphones and approximately 200,000 BlackBerry PlayBook tablets.
