Switching to Voice-over-Intenet-Protocol (VoIP) solutions saves businesses money and helps to improve efficiency.
This is according to Trefor Davies, council member at Itspa and chief technology officer at Timico, who explained that the biggest advantage usually lies in the cost of line rental.
"Another big win for VoIP is that calls to other company sites are free - this can be a massive saving if you have sites overseas," he remarked.
"It is not unusual for a business to halve their communications costs by moving to VoIP."
The advantages of VoIP technology are to issues relating to costs, however.
VoIP users, Mr Davies explained, can move about from office to office, meaning that they can essentially take their 'telephone number' with them.
"This means that homeworkers, for example, can take calls as if they are still sat in the office," he explained to wireless communication device users and others.
