"His genius was the ability to connect poetry to technology. That art and technology thing," he told US broadcaster ABC.
"I mean Bill Gates has astonishing mental processing power. But he didn't have that sort of feel for design and art."
In an interview with the broadcaster, the author confirmed that it was Mr Jobs' intention to read the book six months after its publication.
Meanwhile, Tim Cook, the man chosen to replace Mr Jobs as Apple's chief executive, has described him as the "greatest CEO ever".
News of Mr Jobs' death saw Apple's share price fall dramatically, with investors fearful for the company's future without its main creative thinker.
