element14 sent a unique award to commemorate passing the 1 million point milestone.
It wasn't expected and not something associated with the Ayrton level (12), but it was a very pleasant surprise.

Discussion
I though I would discuss the whole points thing from my perspective for those who are interested in the points system.
The first thought is that achieving 1M points never felt like a realistic goal, As a goal it would be a really long term goal with no tangible reward at the end. (It took 12 years and the award wasn't something known in advance) The 1 M points eventually happened because points were associated with other activities and motives that were worthwhile. Points were a motive, but it was minor relative to other motives.
Here are some statistics involved in acquiring all those points - and clearly doing all these things takes a lot of effort that would not be worth doing just for the 5 points associated with each individual blog or comment.
- Membership 12 years
- Total Points 1,000,000
- Number of Badges 283
- Number of posts: Total = 575, Average > 1 every 8 days
- Average views per post > 1700
- Number of Road Tests ≥ 23
- Number of Design Challenges ≥ 30
- Number of Project14's ≥ 29
- Halloween and Other contests ≥ 33
You can imagine that creating a blog every week for 12 years, where each blog is going to be good enough to average over 1700 views, is a beyond the kind of commitment anybody is going to make for free, but if you just participate at your own pace, doing things you are interested in, eventually you may just achieve a surprising milestone.
Obviously, I like creating designs and making things work and e14 provides additional incentive, not just with prizes, but also with a platform to showcase projects.
One important point about points is that most of them are dependent on other members. Other members create content that is interesting enough to comment on or Like. Other members appreciate and "Like" content and comment on it. Helping other members is another powerful motive.
It is a fact that all members have contributed to this award and that is actually the thing that makes it special for me. Without the element14 members this achievement and this award would be pretty meaningless, but because of the members' involvement it is something I greatly cherish. Thanks everybody...
I would also like to thank element14 for providing the environment where this type of activity can thrive and for designing and providing such a unique award.
