Fizz Buzz Game - Prototyping

The Ben Heck Team ask how we could inspire STEM learning We're Giving Away Two Ben Heck Hex Game Prototypes!

My idea was for a Fizz Buzz Game. It has a couple of big buttons for Fizz and Buzz and a small screen.  The game counts up and you have to press the buttons before the next number is displayed.

To run the game I've a couple of big buttons and an LCD left over from a previous project. I've also bought an AdaFruit Trinket M0 to control everything which I'm planning to code using CircuitPython.

To prototype the gameplay I've been using fullblown Python and PyGame help emulate my hardware. You can find my work in progress at:

It looks like (as long as both buttons are pressed before the 1s timeout) that they will both be registered. It looks like the button states are checked by the program rather than the buttons acting as…

Yes, I did not know how to do callbacks/interupts in python so I just logged the key press and returned.

There's also a "GamePad" class from AdaFruit that might be of help

I know just enough Python to be dangerous, but not enough to know the answer to my following question. Is there a concern of a failed reading on multiples of 15? Those numbers require two buttons to be pressed. If the player doesn't press the buttons at the exact same time, how does the game know to wait long enough for both button presses rather than only reading one, yielding a wrong answer?
