Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas Everyone!

17 Dec 2019

Whether you're sat around the television, games console, board game, card game, a beverage, on your mobile phone, laptop, tablet or your main meal of the day, I hope you're having a good time on this day this year!

What has ol' Saint Nic' brought you for the holidays? Or perhaps a family member, or frankly, perhaps you've decided to buy something for yourself?

Personally I took advantage of the Cyber Monday sales, traded in some old electronics hardware, and bought myself an upgrade to my personal computer system. It's my main entertainment in the home and it's had a hard time with the processor overclocked to 3.7Ghz from 2.6Ghz, so I figured it needed a much deserved rest, especially powering a virtual reality setup, and I went for a 3.7Ghz i7 that I'm lucky can overclock to 4.6Ghz (I tend to push my hardware pretty hard to get the most out of it).

Hopefully now I'll be able to work on a few projects with virtual reality now that I won't have sync issues! (I get terribly motion sick sometimes, but the Vive has been pretty good for that).

For logging in today we'll also have a badge treat for anyone checking out the Community image

What've you received for the holidays? Or what did you get someone else that was well received? Or are you enjoying some contemplative time?

Happy Xmas! : ) The PC upgrade will make a massive difference for the VR hopefully. I saw a HTC VIVE set-up that was impressive, but did need a very high-end PC. That reminds me, PC upgrades are great…

Merry Christmas to everyone. Santa didn't bring me any new toys. I do, however, have to face an upgrade from W7 to W10 in the new year. If this results in a sluggish system I may have to make an investment…

Well, I did log into the community on Christmas Day but hardly hard the time to do anything. It seemed a bit quiet, but I was too busy catching up on blogging about a few things that have been on the backburner for way too long. When I did pay attention to sales, there were so many that were "fake news" so I didn't end up really buying much in the way of material goods.

But the B&K Precision DAS240-BAT arrived for its RoadTest and I've already unboxed it, given it a photo-shoot, set-up the unit on the network, done a few simple checks on the unit and written a ModBus client working with it to automate some testing. I've also managed to discover a few minor issues with documentation and software as well - but it's still early days still. Some of the discoveries were a bit funny - but I'll save it for the full RoadTest report after the dust settles. That being said, I suppose B&K might get a present from me soon ... in the form of an e-mail with some questions image.

At least I can't say that I'm bored ... things are happening every day!

    - Gough

It it reminded me of all the great things that I’ve gotten from Element14 this year.  I really enjoy all the projects and programs and RoadTests, etc.  My favorite this year was the Path II Programmable training.  I’m continuing to work on improving my PIIP project.

Thanks to all the wonderful  Element14 staff for all their hard work.  And the Community for their participation.

    Happy Holidays!!

    Ralph

For some reason my wife is not too keen on playing this with me, so I might have to automate one player (somehow). Something fun for the New Year.

That reminds me, PC upgrades are great, but the time to reinstall everything is not : ) I've been putting that off for a month, but need to put some effort into that during the hols! : (

I think I ended up only buying one electronics-related gift (Nintendo Switch Lite), I find out later today how well received it was : )
