I've Just Come In From the Garden!

1 Dec 2022

Hello Eveyone,

This is my first contribution since I went out into the garden around about 13th March'22 ( EyeBall Thingy ) to do some gardening and somehow didn't come back in until about now! I was out in the garden today for an hour or so but it was cold, wet and misty so I didn't stay that long - it must be time for Element14 again. Houray. Last year I came in from the garden on 15 Oct'21 when again, it was too wet too cold. This autumn has been much warmer so I've stayed out for an additional six weeks. If this carries on I might not come back in at all next year.

I have been thinking of doing some project work recently because, as we all know, Christmas is coming, so after spending some time (three days! - I give up easily) remembering/learning how to logon to Element14 I went straight to Project14 to see 'Hack The Holidays' competition - my favourite. All I need now is one or more good ideas and I'll be sorted.

It's good to be back, although it is time for a glass of wine now.

Dubbie

PS I looked up my last project and it had accumulated over 8000 views. How did that happen? I usually only gather a few hundred at most. Whatever I did I'll have to do it again.

I have a problem with squirrels in my yard during the fall and winter.  They eat vegetables (tomatoes and cucumbers) in the garden in the summer, but that's easy to mitigate with wire mesh that also protects against rats and other animals.

In the fall the squirrels started burying nuts not only under the trees and shrubs, but also in the lawn.  My granddogs think it is great sport to dig up these nut caches and now the squirrels are back recovering anything that the dogs missed.  As a result, I have a back yard that is full of holes.

I can use AI to differentiate between the squirrels and dogs, but the question is what to do when I identify a squirrel?  I have a while to think about it as I really need a method to prevent them from burying the nuts in the first place.

I accept that while I was away it must all have been my fault. Based on my past experience it will almost certainly be my fault now I have returned. But now I'm retired so I don't really mind..

Maybe a fox detecting robot. I used to think the cats were a problem, but the fox!. Digs one big hole, bulbs everywhere - I fill it in, next night the fox is back and digs them all up again! I don't like urban foxes anymore.
