So this means this test is not targeted at EU users?

shabaz  thanks, maybe I don’t feel so bad.  It kind of freaked me out when some columns actually disappeared.  Didn’t spend a lot of time thinking about it…

    Hi Ralph,

Was it using the 'engineer' mode filter buttons at the top? (I didn't have time to do this usability test).

If it was using those buttons, then the fact that it was difficult is not your fault. I'm sorry to say they don't work very well. Each time a user clicks on a filter button, the width (or position; I've not narrow it down) of the columns changes! It's so easy to click on another button in between the width change, which results in some completely random filter selection, and then it's very confusing, and the user needs to click the 'back' button just to get to the previously sane settings.

The thing is, the developers must be aware that the filter columns hop away from the user's mouse-clicks under their feet. That behavior is too complex to be a bug. And yet their manager allowed it to be released to the site, so the users suffer.

That was interesting.  I guess I don't search for discrete components much on Farnell/Newark.  I didn't do very well.  I was surprised that there didn't seem to be range filters for different categories (it is difficult to know what certain search terms should be).   I don't recall it being this hard to do but have to admit I haven't done it for a while.
