I remember one project where management decided they needed another layer of control over their engineers. The new guy wanted daily reporting. Consequently leaving about 1 hour per day of real work being done.

What ultimately happened on that project with the constant micro-managing?
I had a similar issue once. I had to write a status report frequently for a manager. I found out that he was using it for his own status report to his boss. In other words, I was doing his work. After finding out, I stopped doing the status reports. Later, the manager was let go.
