Business card circuit board, cool or cliché

I found this business card that is a useful printed circuit. Break off the tabs and it acts as a flash drive with very little storage onboard. Just enough, in fact, to hold the person’s resume in HTML format. (Or a link to an online resume. Also, is that worth it?)

I think the idea is novel. However, imagine is everyone does it. Then, they act like the paper resumes that get stored in the circular file cabinet.
 
Besides the obvious further waste of natural resources, above and beyond that of paper, how do you feel about this card’s worthiness?

    Hi Cabe,

     

    I love the idea but it is old technology. The bank sector uses card with a integrated die. The access is though contact pads on the surface. A drawback is that you need special equipment to read/write. Maybe the best way to proceed is to have an antenna in the card with acts as power input and signal in- and output. In this way the connectivity problems are out but there is still the need for special equipment. There are a lot of experiment ongoing to have contact-less energy transfer. The idea is to have a mousepad-like device where to can put a mobile phone (or other battery powered device) and the pad charges the battery. This is quite changeling as you have to considered EMI and efficiency and lot's of other things. I have seen a solution were the pad had a matrix of energy transfer and detection devices. The unit scans the cells continuous; if something is placed on a cell the energy transfer is started for that particular cell. This helps to increase the efficiency and lower the EMI. Ok, I must admit; I changed the subject and it wasn't even smoothly;-)

    The CD style business cards are probably more practical and cheaper.

     

    Years ago when I was working on vehicle passive access systems I read about concept for human body communications.  I think it may have been related to Philips work on the near field proximity technology.   Essentially, you carry you electronic business card with you.  If you touch someone (i.e. shake their hand), the public information you permit is transmitted through contact to their card.  So shake hands, and you swap business card details and have them stored for future reference.  Would be nice if this could extend to incorporating mutual authentication, such that building access, mobile phone use, vehicle use or even vending machines could be seamlessly used with authorisation (or with additional pin number).

    Hi all,

     

    Rather than a business card PCB, we are getting some business card USB sticks for a particular event - which means you can have it custom printed both sides with additional information, and there is also room for the customer to keep using it as a USB stick as well.  This sort of thing...

    There's lots of suppliers out there, just search for USB business cards.  Some will even pre-load with some data on request, as well.
