COVID19-What's Going On in Your Community?

Sean_Miller

Curious to hear directly from folks around the world, what's the response in your community to the COVID19 crisis?

Here is my status:

  • Just east of St. Louis Missouri in Illinois.  Population 30,000.
  • All schools closed
  • All restaurants closed with exception of curbside, online orders and fast food drive throughs
  • All small businesses not food or essentials related are closed
  • Must stay sheltered in place at home
  • Gas stations and grocery stores are still open
  • To drive around, you are to have a formal permit provided by your employer to print and put in your vehicle windshield or be going to a grocery store
  • Essential industry like refining has remote workers - site staffing is cut to minimum per Process Safety Management policy
  • We have had one case reported in the community, but several in St. Louis.  One death.
  • Underlying concern across the United States is not sufficient ICU beds and ventilators should we see a surge like Italy (who actually has a better bed/1000 residents ratio)

See ya',

Sean

Gas is $1.29 per gal. here.  Not too many cars on the roads, grocery store parking lots seem full every day though.  No problem finding meat in the stores, even bread and milk are in good supply.  Cleaning supplies are vacant, canned soup is kinda hard to find. My neighborhood seems normal, kids playing outside all day, people jogging and dogs walking their humans.  No fires, riots, mayhem or other shenanigans.  The University is closed, but I can still go in and work on lab stuff if needed.

We just came back from the vet -  we stayed in the car while waiting.

Then the vet came outside to chat. She wore a hand-sewn facemask, and my wife wore her hand-sewn facemask.

CharlieKat was handed over in his carrier, almost like one of those 007 spy movie exchanges where we set him down, stepped back, they picked him up.

All very carefully organized, so that whole process felt a lot more secure than walking into a grocery store, by a long shot.

CharlieKat got a wipe down bath when he got home image

All is still going well here (Charlie is getting some new medication).

    Stay well,

    -Nico
