I have a few Sonos devices that won't work anymore so I thought I'd take one apart today to see what's in it. These are self-contained units so have a 240V power supply, audio codecs, wifi cards, ethernet controllers and so on. All the supporting passives: resistors, capacitors, electrolytics, inductors, crystals. There's even a 32-bit RISC microprocessor from Renesas in there. The power supply card converts from 240Vac to a dual 3.3V and 14.8V DC output. I can pretty much guarantee I won't get around to cataloguing the parts on them. I'd assume that given these are 15+ years old, the electrolytic capacitors aren't worth keeping. Other passives I could easily remove with a heat gun but then I'd be left with measuring and sorting which is 50-50. I'd have to be very bored.
I could put all these PCBs in the parts bin or the dustbin. If I do the former, what's the chance I'll get around to re-using any of it in your experience?
On the other hand, if anyone can use this stuff I have 2xSonos amps, 1xPlay and 1xbridge, all of which have been de-activated so can't be used as-is.
