Identifying SMD Components

rictrajano

Hello everybody,

I'm just giving my first steps in trying to diagnose and repair electronic devices and, although I came across this issue previously, I always thought after a few google searches, that was too much information for me to deal with. I'm talking identifying SMD components.

Most of the time It's fairly easy to know what they are but not that easy to identify the model or maker.

I'll give you as an example the actual situation that I'm trying to sort out.

I'm trying to repair an audio interface M-Audio M-Track 2x2 and identified the apparent culprits which I believe are transistors and possible one resistor.

Pictures:

I can see the mark on the top which says BBV 17 but unfortunately I can't find anything online that points me to an exact transistor with that reference.

What am I doing wrong?

This list is as close as I could get and searching for the part number of the transistor the closer I get is BBV 49.

Do you guys have any tips for this search or any other search when trying to find hard to identify components?

Thanks very much for your help.

Regards,

Rick

It looks like the silkscreen for the devices call them Q10 and Q13 which should mean they are transistors. It would be useful to see more of the area around the parts in question to see more of the silkscreen…

    Look on page 243, 8th entry from the top (3-pin devices): BBV 2SD2114K-V Si-npn AF, 25V, 500mA, 200mW, B=820..1800, >350MHz SOT-346 16ta 3a - Rhm Also the silk screen clearly shows Q10 and Q13. Q is the…

you can try to search the marking codes (topmark) on this website:www.marking-codes.com,your part BBV seem is sot346,part number 2SD2114K rohm . number 17 and 49 on your picture is the date code BB is…

It looks like the silkscreen for the devices call them Q10 and Q13 which should mean they are transistors. It would be useful to see more of the

area around the parts in question to see more of the silkscreen and what the surrounding parts are. I see at least one resistor and while most

of the parts in your list do not normally use resistors, transistors do. So the most likely answer is that they are the Rohm 2SD2114 transistors.

Also I found this reference for SMD device markings which looks like a good reference for SMD parts markings:

Here's a picture of the surrounding parts:

In the middle of the pictures os can find the damaged transistors.

There are two mentions of BBV in the pdf you shared but they say it is a TVS.

I'll order the parts and try replace them. Just need to check the that resistors value and start replacing the components.

Thanks for your help. I'll keep updating the repair progress.

Look on page 243, 8th entry from the top (3-pin devices):

    BBV  2SD2114K-V Si-npn  AF, 25V, 500mA, 200mW, B=820..1800, >350MHz SOT-346 16ta 3a- Rhm

Also the silk screen clearly shows Q10 and Q13. Q is the standard reference designator for transistors.

you can try to search the marking codes (topmark) on this website:www.marking-codes.com,your part BBV seem is sot346,part number 2SD2114K  rohm .

number 17 and 49 on your picture is the  date code

BB is the marking code for 2SD2114K, V for other information,in rohm 2sd2114k’s datasheet show marking code : BB*

you can try the measure the part o hand and compare with the datasheet of 2SD2114K

Thanks for your tip. I’m at the moment having trouble with other components so it might come handy.
