Amiga.com Secret Message

Sean_Miller
Sean_Miller over 4 years ago

I burnt out and had a moment of weakness and allowed nostalgia to set in while watching Netflix with my laptop in my lap.

My first move was to visit Amiga.com to read up on things from decades gone by.

It had nothing but a single image and a little bit of text describing the registered trademark.

I thought, that's odd, no ads...no pitch to buy the URL.  What gives?

So, I did right click -->Inspect to look to see if there was something to it.

It was a very lean, well marked up, simple web page, but with a long comment of what looked like gibberish.

Well...I'll stop there for those of you who want a challenge.

Amiga certainly has done well under the old conditions.

I'm sure anyone with recollection of the old BBS days would know exactly the algorithm used to encode the message. There was a joke a while ago about applying the process twice for increased security …

The message was actually very inspiring for me as I found it at a perfect time at work when I'm trying to role out the next big thing.  It's a statement about 500 years old.

It was such a random thing to bump into, though.  Would love to hear the story on it, but they leave no trace as to who is funding the URL or made the page.  Maybe their is a domain search tool that possible would provide such contacts of ownership?

There is ... it's called WHOIS ... but unfortunately, it has been registered behind a domain privacy service at GoDaddy.com. It has been the trend to do this (I do it for my own website too) because you would otherwise end up exposing some personal information and potentially be the target of harassment.
