What do you like about April Fools Day?

I've never been one for 'pranks' but my favourite used to be on a website called ThinkGeek.com - every year they'd have products that were almostreal, and in fact, after a few years they started to make some of them a reality.

What do you like or hate about April Fools Day? Perhaps you're more of a pranker and practical joker than a fake product creator?

We all don't need gravity screwing up our measurements, right? image I guess the fun is always in the innovative humourous takes on some things - in this case, "features" and "specifications".

We used to send newbies for the classics, fallopian tubing, metric adjustable spanner, left-handed screwdriver, a bubble for a spirit level, sky-hook and the best one for stores was the 'long weight' - you can figure that one out.

Guys were also sent for their ID photograph (ID 10 T) wearing full Respirator/NBC suit - required for when you were on exercise in a pretend nuclear/chemical war environment - usually taken holding a card with the ID designator on - ID10T.

We also sent a guy halfway around base with a bag of 'contaminated air' removed from an aircraft component - he was geared up in a leather apron, elbow length gauntlets, full face shield and white disposable overalls. That took a fair number of phone calls to set up.

    Ah the days . . .

I'm not a fan of April Fools Day.  For the most part, life is tough enough without intentional cruelty (pranks).  We had them aplenty in the Army (blackout drive fluid, blinker fluid, flight line, left handed wrenches, etc.)  Preying on the innocent is not humor.  Plastic wrap over the toilet is not humor.

With that being said, from time to time there are some creative stories that are well crafted - like some of the auto industries April Fools Day releases.  One article on disposable cars was almost convincing.  I can't remember the actual car names, but they were similar to the Dodge Déchet (French for junk) or the Ford Basura (Spanish for trash).  That was a funny article.

I can certainly appreciate that a lot of the pranks are in poor taste, and some are certainly not so much pranks as being cruel. I don't favour those at all.

It may be cultural, but April 1 pranks are supposed to be bad taste yet no harm. They should be obvious after the facts.

No humiliation, no harm. Yet fun.
