Favourite technological word

jack.chaney56 mentioned that his favourite word was "Just" as in, "it just works" which often hides a massive amount of work done by others to make it happen for you.

My favourite is "Simply" which comes up in our requirements statements. e.g. "It simply needs to guide the rocket and land on the asteroid". We find it used most when the person writing the request has no idea at all about what needs to be done.

Of course, thinking about it, Archimedes of Syracuse said it:  Eureka!

There are those out there with whom I would just as rather not be sharing an electron with!  Whole thing gives me the creeps!  Upon reflection, however, perhaps I do have a tendency to dwell in 'rabbit holes.'

...Sneaking in a comment...  Depending on how you view matter that matters. Is it a wave, or is it a particle. Then you start adding dimensions to explain anomalies, and before you know it, your explanation starts to permit existence of physical manifestations that you aren't willing to accept.

or, you can say, "yes a rabbit lives in that hole".

off topic:  Say, DAB, what is your take on the 'single electron' theory?

I agree, I always kept a project notebook and kept everything in it, including designs, and decisions made by management.

It always came in handy when management forgot something and instigated a urinal Olympics over issues.  Having my note dated and timed always won over anyones faulty memory.

    I document everything!

I have the approach - "Document as you work!"

If you can touch type and use illustration packages well it does not hinder the development in any way whatsoever.

    It's a real time saver!

    The ROI is fantastic!

Yes, that one goes along with, "Don't bother to document anything, its just for a demonstration!"

After the demo, it suddenly becomes a full blown prototype that they expect you to quickly turn into a product rather than let you redesign it for its intended task.

I have been caught on that one, but never twice.

'NREs'  Non-recurrent engineering.  Those are all of those rando parts distributed on the bench and floor when one is designing something or trying to get something to work.  I am hooking up the air on my new laser cutters, I will have a surfeit of nipples and tubing lying around by the time I get it right.

Back in the analog thermal controls factory I worked in after HS, I was hearing 'nominal' and 'ambient' often.

...nails on a chalkboard!!! image  The expression "out of the box thinking" is usually uttered by a person that can't get out of their own way most times.

    Thank you Douglas.
