Favourite technological word

jack.chaney56 mentioned that his favourite word was "Just" as in, "it just works" which often hides a massive amount of work done by others to make it happen for you.

My favourite is "Simply" which comes up in our requirements statements. e.g. "It simply needs to guide the rocket and land on the asteroid". We find it used most when the person writing the request has no idea at all about what needs to be done.

    How about "out of the box thinking"

    Perhaps Kipling said it best:

    By Rudyard Kipling

    (‘Brother Square-Toes’—Rewards and Fairies)

       If you can keep your head when all about you

      Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,

    If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,

        But make allowance for their doubting too;

    If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,

        Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,

    Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,

        And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:

    If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;

        If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;

    If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster

        And treat those two impostors just the same;

    If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken

        Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,

    Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,

        And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:

    If you can make one heap of all your winnings

        And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,

    And lose, and start again at your beginnings

        And never breathe a word about your loss;

    If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew

        To serve your turn long after they are gone,

    And so hold on when there is nothing in you

        Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’

    If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,

        Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,

    If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,

        If all men count with you, but none too much;

    If you can fill the unforgiving minute

        With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,

    Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,

        And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!

    What is a Success? No word like Failure should be used, we should replace that word with Experience, it will be much better. For example If someone says "I tried that and it was complete failure" no it should be like "I tried that and I got a 'huge experience' about what not to try/do again".

    My favorite quote on this subject: "Good judgement comes from Experience.  Experience comes from Bad Judgement."

    These three words are written on my DNA strands.image I don't know about you but I have seen & experienced it in many times of my life, what this "never give up" thing can do. I'm never afraid of going one/two/three or.... steps further what's not in my comfort zone and I'm Happy to say that it always worth the pain.
    I was writing a whole latest example of this but it became huge as I wrote it and will probably waste your time So I'm not posting it here.

    Cheers ! image

    In shrink world there is a term called 'perseveration' which as I understand it is defined as working at a task after all perceived benefit has evanesced, and is considered a defect of executive functioning.  We need to separate tasks and goals.  The US-Vietnam war may have come to be a case of perseverence on the Yankee side.  The Greeks told us that prosecution of an unwinnable war is intrinsically immoral.  "I would remind you that extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice! And let me remind you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue!"  Said Barry Goldwater in 1964, probably ripping off Plutarch.  Its complicated.

    Love the illustration, I will print it and post it in my workshop.

    Ohh, You are so right.
    I have tasted what delicious recipe experience can make. That's why I always build things from scratch because when I start from scratch I seek for many new things to learn. For example, If I just connect components in a circuit and made a development board looking over a schematic I am definitely going to learn a little because I will be making less mistake in that. If I create my own circuit and then start building a development board that thing will teach me a lot because I know I will make mistakes but it will definitely raise questions like " WHAT? WHY" and finally " Oh That's Why! " i.e. EXPERIENCE. Of course it takes some time but I have always found that, that time is really worth it.
    When I build a project & if everything goes smooth i.e. no mistake, I believe I haven't learned anything about it. on the other hand If I'm making a project and it is stuck at one problem That is a huge success for me because I know in any next moment/day/week/month I'm going to get my answer "why its not working" and that will stay in my memory forever.

    Failure for want of a better word is really only applicable when one gives up the quest and no longer intends to suceed with that particular one.

    As long as you have not given up, you have not failed, but rather not completly suceeded yet and as mudz stated, your still gaining experiance which is all positive.
