You Know You're an Engineer When...

wpolk
wpolk over 10 years ago

We're asking you to complete this sentence: "You know you're an engineer when..."

Your input could be featured in an upcoming article on ImAnEngineer.com, Newark element14's newly launched website celebrating the ingenuity and impact of engineers!

We'll be choosing three of the most insightful and entertaining responses to send a much-sought-after bag of element14 swag to, between now and the end of July (don't worry if you're post is already in, we'll still consider it as an entry). T's & C's are here, and remember that you can drive the competition by casting votes for your favorite entries using the "Like" button on each post.

To bag your swag:

Step 1: Think deeply about the kind of traits that you feel typify the engineer's personality (and then check out the obligatory terms and conditions for the comp).

Step 2: Register, log in and comment on this discussion to tell the world about your favorite engineering personality quirks/disorders/idiosyncrasies.

Step 3: Make yourself a coffee and spend an enjoyable hour picking out the inspired (mostly hilarious) insights into your engineering identity, and hit the "Like" button on those that really resonate.

You know you're an engineer when . . . . . . the 'How am I going to build it' comes before the 'Why am I going to build it'.

I do have one special caretaker who puts up with an awful lot of stuff she has zero interest in.

Lol. We should have a thread for most interesting hacks seen at hackspaces/hackathons : )

Some are run in the Berlin office occasionally, I've yet to attend one though!

It'd be hilarious if the data lines are actually connected in that cable.

I've seen some hilarious franken-cables hacked together this way at leeds hackspace, some involved vga to dvi adapters..

..forgetting the USB cable to charge your mouse can be resolved by splicing sufficient bits together from your car!

I wasn't holding on in Belgium but we did sort of muscle our way in, and the people were very good about letting everyone have a clear photo.

Yeh the green screen trick isn't 100%, and many fake photos tend to be caught out with lighting

My daughter did a really good photo manipulation, but made sure the object was orientated the right way before blowing it up and adding it onto the background.

The first size is believable but the second isn't ...

Always look for the fact you aren't at 30+ degrees holding on for grim death image

Yes the light is coming form more or less the oposite direction as well I suppose!
