Java/C Integration

element14Dave

C is very good for programming embedded devices, but maybe a high level language like Java could increase productivity for some parts e.g. the application layer. If Java software components could be

integrated seamlessly into an existing software stack written in C, would you consider using it?

It would very much depend on the application. You are kind of describing the Android programming model, which I realize people are now starting to call embedded programming, describing what has traditionally been called embedded as bare metal programming.

So, if you are talking about the former, then there are APIs available for that sort of thing, such as in android. I would expect there is probably a JVM available for the pi, or at least the beaglebones, so that capability is there. I haven't taken advantage of it to this point.

If you are talking about the latter, bare metal programming, it would seem that the jvm would take up valuable memory that as an experienced developer I could put to better use.

C is just such a good fit for embedded programming. Or at least what I have always called embedded programming.
