Nostalgia: *** Smith Electronics Fun Way into Electronics

A little while back, I did a little blogging about *** Smith Electronics Fun Way into Electronics series. This was arguably one of the main things which got me into the whole electronics hobby, so I thought some of you might also enjoy looking back at *** Smith when it was more than just a consumer electronics shop. If you remember these, or have any thoughts to share, I'd love to hear them .

I remember having a "Boy Scout" book that got me started. I was not a scout, but i would buy there books, and there was a plan for a "Generator" made out of a spool of tread.
There was more projects in there that i did, but i wore several of them generators out.
After that was Forest mimms. Like others.

Hi Lupe, You brought back a memory for me, also of a Boy Scout manual with a crystal radio in it. This was before they had nice kits made up. I wound and shelacced a coil on a paper tube, used tin foil and paper to make a capacitor, and the crystal was a small piece of germainium that a bent pin was placed against. A small set of earphones was attached and there was the local radio station. It was very exciting to have someting like that really work.
