joshwants2beanengineer
joshwants2beanengineer over 9 years ago

Hi all, im new to this site so sorry of its posted in the wrong forum, im a recent highschool graduate and i am curious about what each type field of practice entails in the industry. What kind of tasks are preformed, how hands on each field is and what kind of interests are needed to enjoy working as that specific engineering discipline. Thanks in advance to those who respond.

    Good Morning joshwants2beanengineer

Firstly, I would take a skills inventory list of yourself. List alll the thing you like versus do not like. Then see how they match up with what engineers do. a good place to check out is http://typesofengineeringdegrees.org/ . BTW, I am a retired computer software and hardware engineer specializing in mainframe hardware like virtual tape and operating systems. One thing to know is that the job has become more clerical requiring English skills and writing. Sometime I have done public speaking and teaching as well. You should have a desire to learn constantly as retraining occurs often.Time management skills are definitely required to manage many projects that you may work on. A multitasking approach helps as well. I hope this helps you get a leg up on your peers. Do not be afraid of putting more about you here so others may help. Good hunting for that job of the future.
