Arduino has transformed how all hardware suppliers address low-volume low-cost markets. (Free integrated development environments (IDEs) with lots of example applications and standard hardware interface pinouts.) A great many either make arduino compatible hardware or ardunio compatible IDE. While many suppliers provide enhanced features that may be highly desirable, true arduino compatibility provides the largest pool of low-cost resources.
