Impact Metrics of a Blog

Question

I have a question in regards to the Impact Metrics statistics of written blogs. What is the Global Reach percentage? My apologies if this is not the correct place for this discussion. Trent

Hi Trent, I am not sure if this is the answer that you are after but I have checked my posts which number a little over 200 and go back to May 2014. On a couple occasions I have had over a thousand views and once over 3000 but most show less than 500 in total. If you measure this against the total membership it is a small percentage. It is quite a bit better if it is compared to the active membership. Once in a while the administration will highlight a blog by promoting it on the Welcome page and this can multiply the number of views. John

Hi Trent, A good blog can affect a good many people, well beyond the view metrics. I think Element14 does a good job of reaching a wide range of engineers. The level of expertise found in the membership is amazing to me, and I have worked with very good people most of my career, so I know the difference. If you invest your time and blog here, you will get quality comments and advice as needed. I think you have already seen the many benefits of the community sharing knowledge and ideas. I do not even look at the metrics for my blogs. I just try to share what I can and let time take care of the rest. Your blogs can live on for many years. DAB

As you stated, it is a measure of how far within the community your post reaches. I'm on a mobile device, and if I touch each metric whilst viewing them I get an explanation.

I've not tried mouse clicking them on my desktop so I don't know if you can easily see it there.

Reach conveys how widely viewed your content is in your community. We use a calculation based on number of registered users, and include web and mobile views only. This does not include those following content via email.

Hi Trent,

On Android, there is an option in Chrome to 'request desktop version' of web pages, and that reverts you to the desktop view (iOS may have a similar type of setting, but I'm not sure). To do that on Android Chrome, tap the icon with three vertical dots (...) at the top-right of the screen, and then in the drop-down menu that appears, there should be a check-box for 'Request desktop site'. Hopefully that will work for you.

Thank you for the responses. The impact metrics are a great feature. For a new member such as myself, it can be helpful information. Recently I've added my Google+ profile URL info to my Element 14 profile and vice versa. This should make my blog posts appear with my G+ avatar in Google search results as suggested in the E 14 profile edit page: In Google+, go to your profile, and click About. Copy the URL and paste it here. Then on Goolge+, scroll down to Links, click Edit, and in the Contribute To section click Add Custom Link; add http://element14.com/community . Once you've done that your posts on element14 will show up nicely with your G+ avatar in Google search results. e.g. https://plus.google.com/12345678901234567890
