Hey e14 Members who YouTube

kellyhensen
kellyhensen over 5 years ago

I was wondering if any of you were talking about the current kerfuffle in the news surrounding youtube partner program changes.  Before drafting this note, i decided to search for youtube and see if there was already a conversation underway.

So I searched for youtube and the most recent poste i found was from gam3t3ch titled,  Youtube is the Devil which is ironic becase he posted it over 9 months ago.

I digress.

So members and Top Members I know many of you have channels (a short list is posted below).  I'm wondering what your thoughts are on what YouTube is doing to the small/just starting channels?  If you have a youtube channel - why did you start it up?  How does it feel to have your hopes and dreams of being the next PewDiePie snatched cruelly from your hands?

Or do you just enjoy making videos?

signed,

just curious

a short and very incomplete list:

Ya I just posted in my updates about the new updates to youtube.  I have sat back and thought about quite a bit. I understand youtubes stand on it. It doesn't mean I I enjoy loosing 10 to 15 dollar's a month off the ad revenue every month.  BUT if 90% of all channels made under 2.50 in a month it makes sense it is good business practice.  If I was putting my ad out there I would want it to get results with the new formula I'm more inclined to advertise.  But doesn't mean I enjoy it like I stated.  I will certainly sub anyone that is on the list there as well as any others that post theirs up here.

Also I enjoy filming and editing and would continue to do it regardless of being paid. That's just a perk for me to be able to get new tools for filming.

I don't make videos, and I prefer that instructional videos don't exist.

While they are great for some stuff, you can't cut and paste from them, you can't easily include code, and if you're trying to remember that instruction where you tweak x, it's much harder to find in a video.

I tend to also find most presenters seem to like the sound of their own voice, and tend to be much longer than required.

I've watched the PSOC series and I've lost track of how much repeating or acknowledging how great the product is.

Another issue that plagues many is the quality ... you either have extremely large file size or are left with struggling to see what's going on.

I'm aware that not every video falls into this category, but without careful production or post production, the excellent content can be lost in poor quality.

    Cheers

    Mark

I've been using YouTube mostly to share videos with others, rather than for the purpose of it being a channel on its own.

I haven't actually checked the history of my channel for a while, so it was funny to look back and see it. image

But yes, it's unfortunate that they are changing it, as it reduces the chance of anyone ever getting a bonus through a short-lived viral video.

They already had a threshold of views needed, so I wonder why they upped it so far out of reach now.

"4,000 hours of watchtime within the past 12 months and 1,000 subscribers." is not something I expect to achieve anytime soon!

I made a total of 67 cents last year, so losing that revenue stream is not going to impact me much image

On the bright side, a lot of YouTube videos will become a lot less annoying to watch now!

    -Nico

I deleted my channel on the day I reached 1000 subscribers. I got a dispute with them on that very day and I don’t need disputes in my hobby.

    Oh hey Canadian even!

I had to check out your channel of course, and saw the 28 cent coffee maker image  Now, I have to ask the all important question - did that include shipping? image

Also, good way to keep stalkers at a distance, waving the "package opener" like that image

Yes it was with shipping I tend to score a few deals like that a few times a year if not more people tend to think its going to sell for more then they list for to make  up for shipping and 9/10 times they send it.

Hey, ill have to open a few with the chop saw,  bandsaw and a dremel  lol  (lasers package opener might be a good project as well)
