[Metrology] Anyone interested in creating a new "Metrology" group?

DiligentMinds.com

This new group would be for discussing everything about metrology.  For example temperature, pressure, voltage, current, and resistance standards-- calibration equipment and tear-downs of the same.  Help in ways to properly measure things.  Community developed standards and calibration services. (etc. etc.)  Sooooooo, what do you think?  Anyone interested in participating?  --Ken

Metrology is not my area of expertise, but I am still interested in understanding the technologies and principles used in metrology.

    Hi Ken,

It's definitely valuable information, and I think anyone can create a group (I've not tried yet), but there are a couple of nice groups that maybe already are suitable for these topics too. I like the 'Open Source Hardware' group (such a group name also encourages people to share detail, rather than information-hide like on some alternative websites) and also the Test & Tools group.

Personally if I created some reference or cal project, I'd want to share it on the 'Open Source Hardware' group (although content can be shared across multiple groups with the current Jive version as I understand).

With other groups, there is a risk people only partially share information, and so far that's not happened much on this site. People are really open with their projects here. On other sites, there is a severe lack of detail. My only concern is if there was a Metrology specific group, people would not share complete information because they'd be concerned they would be shot down for not having 'cal lab standard' projects. That seems to be the culture on some other websites. Personally I'd like to see shared projects even if they are incomplete or need more refinement, rather than the project not to see the light of day because it's never finished.

    Anyway, it's just an opinion!

I too am not sure it would necessarily generate more content but may rather dilute what is on the other groups but who knows, it is probably worth a try and I am certainly interested in learning more about Metrology.

Interested. There is a Test & Tools section that is close though: Test & Tools
