Why does legacy content appear in current content menu?

Why does content (i.e. some post) appear in the content menu when it doesn't appear that anyone has made a change? I check for dates on posts but there doesn't appear to be any current.

I have seen notice legacy posts appearing, example Raspberry Pi 2/3 Weather Sensor Shield that don't seem to me to have any changes. The last entry on this post is 2017. I have experienced this in the past and have chosen to ignore it. I seem to recall someone made a passing comment about legacy content but at the time I was chasing other squirrels.

I've actually made posts to what appears to be questions but discover, the questions was posted years ago. I'm curious is it something I am doing or if there is something I can fix? I ignore it for the most part but do feel a sense of embarrassment if I am responding to a post that has a crust on it because it is so old and I am informed about the crust by another member.

Hi Sean I have the same question. Sometimes someone restarts a thread with a new post but there are times when it is just like you said, no apparent reason for it to be in the current posts area. John

Phew! Thanks JW, I hadn't heard anyone else mention the anomaly so I thought it was something I was doing or not doing.

I suspect it's because someone is marking things helpful or liking/unliking ... perhaps bookmarking those threads which somehow means that the "last activity" time gets updated. Sometimes it might be a batch-operation on the database by management causing this. It is quite confusing and sometimes quite annoying - definitely agreed.

colporteur, because of the way the Jive platform works, it decides that any interaction with content means that it's recently modified and 'new'.

This can be any of the following actions:

    - The item was edited in some way

    - The item was moved from one group to another

    - Depending on the widget type on the site, if it's gained some participation activity, such as a comment or otherwise

    - The item was reported as spam, and removed from the moderation queue as not spam

Thanks CS for sharing your insight.

Are you aware of any method that would enable a user to detect these conditions and make a post? I'm thinking of a quick check like a best before date on meat packages, to determine if I a response is warranted.

Usually at the top of content it may state the created date, and the modified date. Not all content has this, but it's typically a good indicator.

Why does legacy content appear in current content menu? There appears to be some cross pollination on post. I discovered the link on what causes the condition and how to check but it doesn't appear in this post in addition to CS response. I figured I would pull it all together by putting the link here. I also gave CS credit for the answer. Thanks.
