USB to IIC

Hi guys,

I have just purchased a USB to IIC adapter (see pictures below) I went random alibaba thing as it was the only one I could find with 5v/3.3v jumpers plus specified works on Mac.

Link: https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/CH341T-2-in-1-module-3_1600073269744.html

I contacted the company and they forwarded me to https://pan.baidu.com/s/1R66X8r47V-ITolVK1-LHVw for the driver. Alas I have not got and am unable to figure out the Baidu website. Lack of translation and it keeps failing to allow me to register a foreign number strongly seems to be hampering my efforts to obtain (anyone have a Baidu account that can help me here too would be great) the file.

Looking at the Chipset CH341T I have managed to find CH341SER_MAC.ZIP - Jiangsu Qinheng Co., Ltd. which seems to install drivers for it.

*edit* I have tried a couple of times to install following the instructions and it doesn't seem to add the required driver in /dev folder

So, I'm hoping I haven't wasted my few $$ on it and someone out there has the same desire to work on their PC (Mac) vs Pi and am able to help; as for the life of me I can't get it to work. It is detected by system information correctly and passes power through (have a basic LED which lights up when plugged into the connectors).

I guess the question is, has anyone had any luck in working with IIC/GPIO on Mac, and if so, how to actually do so? I have installed a bunch of recommended libraries but alas nothing seems to get IIC going.

Thanks

    Hi David,

I think this would do what you want and is inexpensive and well supported.  I used it on my Windows PC but it has MAC and Linux drivers. It defaults to 3.3V and you need to cut a trace and jumper pads to change to 5V.

I just remembered that it has a USB-C connector, but that was a plus for me as I prefer it.

I saw this one and one of their more advanced ones a while ago, I think it was out of stock on Adafruit plus $40 US on top to ship to Canada.

Had a quick look on digikey.ca and what ya know its there for $20 CAD all in with shipping. I have placed the order so should hopefully receive it in a couple of days and will update.

Thanks for the suggestion and will reply once I've had a chance to play with it.

I'd still be interested If any one knows about the one I brought!

    Cheers

    Dave

While the original one I purchased seems to be garbage and the supplier is as useful as a 1 legged donkey I'll mark this as answered.

    Thanks again for the suggestion!
