Can anyone recommend a good reference for learning to write code for Arduino and other applications?
Hello,
My name is Daniel McIntyre. I am 74 years of age with 5 grandchildren. I have ordered 5 raspberry pi model b cards. My son and I built
a Sinclair ZX81 when he was 12. I recently help anothe grandson build a comptuer with off the shelf parts. It appears to me that the raspberry pi
can be a good learning experience for them all. I suspect that I am somewhat in over my head so I will be learning as well. I will need and accept all the advice I can get.
Thank you
Dan McIntyre
Hi Steve,
Welcome to the E14 community, HERE is a good video tutorial series for Arduino....
I would also recommend you "Arduino Cook Book" you can download the PDF from internet, it's a very detailed book....
Hi Dan,
I think many of us will be happy to help answer questions. Your experiences teaching to children will be valuable for many of us to learn.
Personally I thought the video series here was very good to get the boards plugged in and set up. The PDF quick-start guide is useful-ish and worth reading. Then for next steps the online magazine is considered a useful resource (I've looked at it briefly). A lot depends on what motivates the kids - scratch is supposed to be a good start into programming, but I'm not familiar with it unfortunately. It allows for graphical creation of games for example, and learn programming along the way.
But, with Linux, you can choose any programming language you wish - Python is popular and there are lots of resources for it on the RPI.
There are lots of project ideas here by the way, well worth scanning through for ideas.
I hope this helps as some initial stuff to browse through :-)
Thank you for your response. I will try your suggestions.
Dan
