invisible members

Links to member profiles have always had some issues, for example  DAB never worked on Jive, but it does now - congratulation Don!

@scottiebabe did work on Jive but no longer works for me. Sob However some cool new emoticons do work, and you can make them larger ...

I don't recall all the previous issues so I am trying a few random members...

shabaz fmilburn Jan Cumps jc2048 beacon_dave  genebren Gough Lui jw0752 ntewinkel all work, which is good - we need these.

Interestingly the system will now find members (like Gough Lui for example) with multiple different spellings of their handle.

Has anyone found other members who are not in the @ member selector?

I didn't realize had that account setting disabled. Or didn't fully realize it would disable the @ feature. I have since enabled the setting: Thank you for pointing this out. Perhaps that's why…

scottiebabe works ;) But yes, you don't link to people's profiles to mention them anymore necessarily. You simply type '@' and then start typing their username, but it appears if they've set their options…

I typically turn off any configuration that shares information until I am confident what it shares I actually want shared. Personal identifable information paranoia is what remains after a career in IT…

    I couldn't get @colporteur working myself ...

dougw I didn't even realise that you could still use the @ function. I tried it in a comment, it didn't work, so I assumed it hadn't been implemented and did it as a link instead. I must have chosen a user name that doesn't work, though I can't now remember who it was.

But yes, you don't link to people's profiles to mention them anymore necessarily. You simply type '@' and then start typing their username, but it appears if they've set their options to not be included in search on the site, then you can't @ mention them, because you're searching for them when you start typing their name.

Thanks Doug, I know there was a workaround to use the DAB, it just never made sense to me that it would not work.

I was worried I may have been on Santa's Naughty list. I just got a mention notification too!

@scottiebabe definitely does not work for me. As I type it, many suggestions pop up but they cease when I get to the first b.

@colporteur is similar except it fails to find any matches on the second o.

I'm seeing the same as dougw here.

    screenshot of at mention results

If the name isn't one of the initial 10 returned, then you appear to be out of luck.

It comes up with a new list of possibles after each letter is entered, but there are no suggestions for any entries approaching the full name. It seems some member names just aren't on all servers.

I suspect this is more related to 'permissions' than server availability, I suspect the answer is those people you can't @ mention have disabled their ability to 'be found in search' in their settings.

With that being the case I don' t believe pointing it out is perhaps a good idea further?

Unfortunately I don't think we'll be able to change this behaviour, but something should probably be altered in the wording in settings to make this obvious. Thanks verint...

Thank you for pointing this out. Perhaps that's why I wasn't receiving mention notifications too.
