What are your current desk/workbench setups like?

It's been a while for this kind of post, I managed to get a new desk from ikea to finally replace the horror I had, it was hollow cardboard filled wood that started to bow in the middle.

I admit this is when I first set it up, it now has a bunch more stuff on the desk :D but at least there's more room for activities.

My cable management leaves some to be desired though.

The shelves on the left and the right are not part of my workbench, just bookshelves in the room I use.  Also, ignore the shelves on the left side of the set above the desk.  Everything else I have expanded into Grinning  I keep manuals and soldering accessories in the right hand draws and hand tools, various leads and connection cables, power packs and miscellanea in the left hand draw.  All easy to hand.  The light is great albeit a little noisy (electrically) when on - a result of the dimmer probably.  I like Quality Street as you can see and these hold large items such as cable, connectors, heat shrink, test leads etc.  My component cases are in the middle shelf, easy to hand.  My in-progress project boxes (components for) are on the floor on the right.

I know where everything is and my wife won't clean in here (she does downstairs, I do upstairs just in case anyone thought I was being a bit old fashioned!!)  It does help that I keep the desk itself tidy.

There are a bunch of games that really don't expect you to have such a wide setup, and it breaks them in weird and wonderful ways.

I like this setup, it's very smart :D

I have been working at a folding table downstairs in my house by a window that looks out over a wooded area.  The better to see the birds and the squirrels destroying the bird feeder.  I have a fairly recent Core i7 laptop and a Raspberry Pi 400 set up with monitors there.

My plan is to eventually move upstairs to an unused bedroom but I need to put up shelves and it also means giving up the view.  Meanwhile, I have my 3D printer, electronic projects, supplies, and much of my lab equipment up there.

So I often end up having to walk upstairs to get something or start a 3D print.  But at least it gives me some exercise.

Nice, I'd probably be tempted to setup some sort of wildlife tracking camera Smiley

I refuse to be shamed into putting stuff away that is happy where it is.

There's a lot to be said for having frequently used items within arms reach, or simply, to be there as a reminder. :D

I'm about to put it on Ebay. It turned out to be very little help for the kind of work I do. When I bought it I was expecting to make a reasonable number of boards of the same type but that aspect of work has never developed and instead I make lots of different boards in very small numbers  (usually 4 or 5). It takes far longer to set up the P&P than it saves. The other issue is needing all the parts on reels.
