Paper on heatsink mounting considerations

I was researching the implications of using mica/sil-pad insulators - specifically, impact on thermal resistance - and came across this paper from NXP which I thought worth sharing:

  • Great share A3. Reminds me of my electronics college course on thermal dynamics, less the math of course.

    The example of nearly everything wrong raised a few hackles. It may have actually been a product of my efforts. The craftsmanship was not up to standard but it did restore service.

    I've been in situations where the characteristics of the replacement component are not ideal. When the location is isolated and the only contact is the helicopter ride coming back in three days, you are forced to make do with what you have onsite. A note to replace the component on another trip is the best at the time but restoring equipment to production might just be the priority.

    Enjoyed the memories the material rekindled.
