So far the Summer of sensors on element14 has seen an amazing lineup of sensors and activities including extensive participation by both industry and members. Since I am interested in sensors, I am enjoying it all, so thank you to the element14 team for organizing, coordinating and orchestrating everything.
One area that has seen a bit less focus is the infrastructure to tie sensors to applications, although there has been some. Specifically I'm wondering if any members are interested in exploring MQTT, Node Red and LoRa. These don't seem to be as big a focus for manufacturers as I expected. Although these tools do much of the heavy lifting, perhaps they are seen as easy options that don't need reference applications to be used.
I know in my own case, although I use a lot of sensors, I don't use MQTT much because my sensor applications seldom tie in to the Internet. However I do want to have a Node red / MQTT / LoRa platform ready to go whenever I do come across an application that would benefit from it. The LoRa gateway piece is still problematic due to cost, but a project to implement a full system is on my bucket list, just waiting for all the pieces to be affordable.
I do wonder if some new and better technologies are going to pop up before I get my act together and build a platform.
However, this blog is really just to say thanks to the element14 team, industry partners and members for their sensor focus and gage member interest in Node red / MQTT / LoRa. So if you are interested, please indicate it below...
