Depends on your application - I would personally recommend the use of Wi-Fi but in a mesh AP configuration to cover the area of interest if the terrain is difficult. If there is good line of sight, then…

You have two options

1) Sub 1 GHz modules (LoRa or wi sun )

2) 2.4GHz module - ESP Now (cheapest option)

You will have to set up multiple intermediate modules that will serve as intermediate relays.
