Machine learning and robotics

Hey everyone, I was wondering if Raspberry PI is a good way to go for starting my own projects in robotics. I'm in school for machine learning but I'm only scratching the surface as far as what my classes have to offer. Just need a little direction. Thanks.

You might look at Beaglebone Blue - it has better robotics interfaces.

Are there learning aspects to it or is it just programing

What are you looking for in the term Learning Aspects?

Adaptive learning like reacting certain ways to specific shapes and movement of objects while considering time of day as well.

Raspberry Pi 4 can be used, others maybe better, depending on what your investment/budget plan is. Are you thinking to start with OpenCV , Tensor flow,  ROS2 ?

AN array of sensor allows you to develop some knowledge around the inputs and outputs of robotics.

I have used a PiTop4 https://www.pi-top.com/bundles/robotics-electronics to help students get some physical experience. It is a pricey unit if you are on a student budget. An inexpensive sensor collection is much cheaper with the added benefit you have to do more of the heavy lifting in setting up scenarios. The PiTop4 is designed to remove most of that by connectorizing the setup.

I'm kinda stuck between Tensor flow and Open CV, I don't have a lot of experience with them so something I can learn and grow with as well

The Beaglebone Blue has more hardware interfaces which might reduce the amount of hardware you need to do your project. The Raspberry Pi may have more software available. It just depends where you prefer to spend your time and money.
