Question of the Month: Will the next car you purchase be an EV or a Hybrid Electric Vehicle?

e14 Question of the Month

Fast chargers and improvements in battery technology are alleviating some of the concerns that people have with EVs; however, hybrids and ICE (internal combustion engine) vehicles can still be great cars.  Take the poll and let us know what kind of car you would buy, and please tell us why in the Comments section below!

I haven't done the math. I'm just going on the assumption that since my car sits in the garage for up to 7 days not doing anything that there will be enough energy collected to drive it the couple of miles…

I historically keep a car for about an average 20 years, 150k-200k miles. I do the mundane maintenance. Since my latest purchase is only 5 years old, it will be another 15 years until I'm ready to see…

They'd have to have a lot of heavy duty lifting trucks for when the vehicles flew off round the corner!!

    EV. Definitely.

I had an electric motorbike (Zero FXS) back in 2017 but went back to petrol after it was written off. I lasted a couple of years before getting another electric motorbike (Zero SR/F). I still have a 18-year-old diesel Volkswagen T5 van. I'd love to replace it with a VW ID Buzz if they weren't so expensive - and my old van still has plenty of life left in it.

My wife changed her petrol car for an EV almost a year ago - a Tesla Model 3.

I'm pretty sure we'll never buy another ICE vehicle again.

I would not be able to drive to my house with that one. Brussels (and some other cities here) are low emission zones.

Same in London. The small Ultra Low Emission Zone in London is being controversially expanded to cover a much larger area. Luckily I'm still outside so it won't affect me (yet).

The 'ultra low' part is perhaps a bit misleading though. I checked and my old ICE still passed the 'ultra low' part of the test. As do apparently around 80% of vehicles already using the proposed expanded zone.

It's not just London though, other cities are planning the same, and looks like some are considering much stricter emissions controls.

[Edit: Around 90% ULEZ compliance in cars observed using the outer zone in Nov 22 according to TfL
